Pf Tek | Easy BRF Cakes Mushroom Growing Method

Recommended Posts

So I noticed that you have no holes in the bottom of your sgfc. The only tek to build one on here that I've seen, he made holes on every side, including the bottom and the lowest inches where perlite should go.

Has anyone noticed a difference? Will a fully holed sgfc work better than one with no bottom holes? Might it be better to reduce the drill bit size from 1/4th to 1/8th for only the bottom and perlite level sides?

I put holes around my entire tub and I believe it's the reason my shrooms were so small. Too much FAE! Once I blocked the holes with tape after my second flush my mushrooms were much bigger in size, but I have heard 2nd flush yields larger mushrooms:thinking:

Hmmmmm... what about quart jars with a grain lid? I could leave out the verm layer..I did get two free pounds of BRF from shroom supply.... I'm intrigued. What do you think MM? Do I need another project?

But the cakes would need to come out of the jars whole for a cake grow.

Love it. That would almost be as awesome as someone trying to grow APE on cakes ;)

I was thinking this texas lc is such an aggressive fruiter, might be a good candidate. I pitched my tubs today, and there was a ton of mush on the bottoms, it was practically a whole flush on its own..nootz.

who in their right mind would try and grow APE on cakes?? ;)

what about sawdust and brf? woodlover pf? there's a fucking challenge!

How much would all this cost?

And how many grams does this method produce per harvest?

Would love to see a video of that as well. Last birthing of 1/2 pint jars left my hands sore and blood red

Did you let them consolidate for 7 to 10 days after 100% colonization?

Yes I did. I really don't pay attention to the days though honestly. They get birthed when there's a large number of pins. Like in this pic

Seems though the more pins the tighter it gets against the glass lol

Why do you let them pin in the jar that much?

Won't they pin more evenly in a sgfc or similar? On a similar note, what real problems are there with invitro?

I was actually under the impression that I should let them pin that long in jar. It's also hard to keep track of. When they start to pin and are just tiny pins, to those nice sized pins is usually less than 24 hours.

But it does seem to flush faster and larger mush when I do it this way vs when I see tiny pins.

Do you take the pins off then dunk n roll?

No i don remove pins. I don't roll. I hold in my and use a spoon to evenly harvest. Coincidentally I just picked the cake that's in the pic. This is a pic of just a few off it. The 1s that were big pins inside. Newport 100s box for reference

Yum, the bottom looks like it's full of bacteria hence the gooey looking grains, and if it takes 2 months to get to that weak looking myc then something is wrong. With GT it should look more like a big cotton ball.

It looks ok to me. I would proceed to the next step of your tek. I assume you're going to mix with a bulk substrate.

So I bought two grain spawn bags (from shroom supply). They took forever to grew the mycelium (almost two months). The first one was very weird so I just threw it away (sadly). The Second one is weird so I'm not sure if I should proceed with it.    There's white all over it but it doesn't look like mycelium but it doesn't look like mold either.    Can you guys help me please?

So the tek says you need an oven bag with a blue ship about 1/3 from the bottom  of the bag, and a tyvek patch 2/3 of the way to the top of the bag that you tape on or use rtv.    My my question is it says to cover the patch with foil so the tyvek doesn’t get wet ... so just tape some foil over the patch or???

The 2 kits I tired had straw substrate. The first kit I had dozens of pins that stalled and one clump that grew quite nice. Big, tall, healthy specimens. I had some mold issues that ruined the 2nd one entirely. The pic I attached was early on kit 1.  Since I bought those kits, I've started reading and researching on this site and a few others. I've now got a few jars of grain PC'd and innoculated. I'm on day 3. I have all the other supplies as well and it cost me less than what the kits cost. HOPEFULLY, I'm on the verge of doing small bulk batches.  Stropharia Cubensis Cuban is the strain that was in the colonized jar that shipped with the kit and I managed to keep some of the spawned grain from it that I've used for the other jars I've started. My own version of g2g, I suppose.  I quite liked the strain, very mellow an warm, not too potent.
