Popular Post RhythmAddict 901
So, went hunting two days in a row and came up squat. Looking in all the right places, but obvioisly doing something wrong. I'd love to start a discussion about hunting tips. I was in a state park today and found "prime" hunting spots like this dead elm that had may apples right behind it. Theoretically there should have been a motherload. An older gentlemen approached me as I came out of the woods and asked if I thought it was a little dry for mushroom hunting. Also it seems morels have a mycorrhizal relationship with certain trees and may apples. I noticed many times that where I found may apples I could spot a dead/dying elm within 20 feet. This hints to me a mycelial network. I can feel em under me, just can't find em right now for some reason. Maybe I'm looking between flushes. Maybe someone beat me to it already. What have you guys found over the years?
Popular Post magicman 6084
Keep looking man! After a good rain they should be popping up. You can see if there is a mushroom club in your area too. I am a couple hours away from wild edible mushroom territory and there is still a club that gets together and goes up north on hunting trips. The hosts know all the best spots and how to ID the local edibles. A week or 2 after a good rain storm and you should have better results. This year my goal is to go out hunting as much as possible this season. I have yet to eat a morel! Happy hunting RA!
Popular Post Mushinist 3626
Don't feel bad RA, I've been aout a few times and haven't even spotted any of the other fungus that usually comes out at the same time. Plus its just now starting to green up up in there. Hopefully my trip to Illinois will be fruitful! Apparently this fella thought I was threatening him, lol.
Popular Post RhythmAddict 901
Damn he looks pissed! @magicman my mom would get them and sautee them in butter and put them on steak when i was a kid. They really are delicious. I've been wanting to go for years as I got older but could never find someone to go with me. This year said fuck it I'll learn and go alone. I've searched for mycology groups with no luck but not hunting groups. I'll give it a whirl.
