Ok so atm I have a 128 oz bag of large yellow popcorn in the pc. Last night I also rinsed and picked through a 10# bag of wbs . It does have some cracked corn in it but all the sunflower seeds are out .

Reading through some teks last night in one of MZ’s he says gypsum is required but I didn’t see where he added it . I assume just before the final of (only) pc?

pics to come shortly

Gypsum goes into bulk substrate mix before pc if the tek calls for it.

Gypsum.   It is added to the water during the soak and boil process.   It helps to keep the grains from sticking together so when you shake at 20% colonization it breaks up easier in the jar for a more even spread.   I also have see references to it adding some basic nutrient needed.   That's what I've read anyway and seen on some videos.   Good luck with your grow.

@Moonphase does this need to be powder or can it be the brown pellets ? The brown pellets will dissolve...🤔

I'd grind them up myself.   But, I guess you could always put it into a glass of water and let it dissolve before adding it.

How much gypsum per quart you think ?

I've not done this before but my notes say that for a 7 Qt jar batch at 1 cup dry rye per jar.   Cover the rye with a couple inches of water and add 1 Tablespoon of gypsum for the 12+ hour soak.   The 10 minute boil I assume would be in the same water with added water as needed.   If you go into the General Cultivation under Forums up top ^^^  and put gypsum into the search field a whole lot of discussions about it come up.   Good luck with your grow!

Ten pounds of wbs on the left four pounds of popcorn on the right . About to g2g the popcorn . I gotta say popcorn was less work, less money, way cleaner . Wbs gets you more distribution tho...

Every time I spray my tubs I fan, by hand with a large tub lid, for a few minutes.

Cased a treasure coast, making some more casing . Last time I did some with jiffy mix . This time I’ll do MZ’s Verm and moss mix .

I hope you are making sure your substrate and casing are in the 7.5 to 8.0 Ph range.   That helps keep contamination down.

@mushmouth how much water are you using for each tub each time you mist? I think I’m having trouble with too little moisture .

Still looking for some opinions on what to do with this dub? It’s two weeks old and seems to have stalled .

3-23 The 2 remaining bags that had an extra quart of water puffed and tammed. This raises the question why?  While the 2 bags with 1/2 qt extra we're PCed with the other 3, they are fine at this point. I don't understand why. I would understand if the 3 we're soup(oversaturated) but having all 3 tam when they were PCed with the other 2 that are fine makes no sense. Something to mull over. Next set of bags will be done with MZ's soak and simmer method on Tuesday. At that time I will also take a peek at the first 4 bags that we're nocced 2 weeks ago with GT and LM. Yes I am aware that those species(?) use different grow teks. The LM I am just spawning for G2G to build up until I have enough for a decent crop once transferred to straw based sub.

Trashed the 6 jars.    Decided to not wait the extra day and looked at the other 15 jars.  The 6 PE showed no signs of growth.   The 3 A+ showed some minor white but not enough to tell if it's mycelium starting or something else.   3 of the Jalisco appear to have the same signs of growth.   I marked the lids of those that showed growth and put them back into incubation.   At least maybe the rye wasn't treated with an anti-fungal?  Very slow growth at best compared to the myc in cakes at 14 days.  Maybe not enough surface moisture on the outside of the grain at the time of inoculation?  It's 79F in the closet but maybe not that warm in the box?   Inserted the digital thermometer probe into the box to see if there is any difference and put them back into the warm closet.   Now I'm thinking maybe the Tamp just didn't have enough time and I blew it by trashing them.  Glad I got back up plan C going starting tomorrow.   At least right now I have a positive sign of growth on 3 A+ and 3 Jalisco with hopes of the others showing something next week when I check again.   Increasing the closet temp to see if that helps.
