I won't say it's my favorite 😉 but I do get great satisfaction out of it. Really looking forward to the mush so I can try my hand at cloning and substrain isolation. Just got a microscope, but have other mush projects that I must complete before I start playing with that. Need to get far enough ahead so I am waiting on the mush instead of it waiting on me.🙃

5-17  made 2 double batches of cmc/coir/verm substrate.  9 bags, 6.5- 7 lbs each.  6 cooling now in the PC. The last 3 will be done tomorrow morning.

Blurryface found a used burlap bag that held beans at some feed store. Big enough to fill the PC to capacity.

Put the pond fogger in a tote for GH humidity.

I still have to plumb the humidifier so it can sit outside the GH but it's functional for now. Bags have been waiting on me long enough.

Strrung up the lighting inside the GH.20190517_171153.thumb.jpg.b5c3979481f614315170ca0e4f98fcae.jpg

More work tomorrow.

Resized_20190518_113350.thumb.jpeg.6b49df8e31ebad4a7c0f9c0ff8d00e05.jpegSo today was a busy day! Transfered ropey strands from the fully colonized GT and KSSS bags to Petri dishes, really hope that some beautiful ropey myc comes of it.  Dycorotic and rizomorphic growth is beautiful.Resized_20190518_113539.thumb.jpeg.32890d96b67465d83497018ed2d0b399.jpegJust a quick peek of a Thai strand going into the dish before we finished up there and went on to start setting up the tubs to spawn to substrate 1 to 3 ratio. 20190518_133105.jpg.9382330c05ccea687c2acb3177be8c4b.jpgThis is the Golden Teacher just placed and not spread out yet, ready to be foil wrapped and moved into incubation for 10 days.20190518_131114.thumb.jpg.e6f6c062c97e42fe2c2ca214883ab9ef.jpgVolcano at around 10 days and will be getting the casing put over as well today along with two others to be shown later on this day. 20190518_141526.jpg.5d1f5a2a29006ccdd14584332413e510.jpgA wonderful picture of the inside of the greenhouse with what we have started and growing bigger everyday lol. 20190518_141632.jpg.948ef46b5bb691fdb93fb11885e6e914.jpgAnd the final picture showing the humidifier and fan in working order. Would always be welcome to any ideas or different ways to look at things in getting them to grow better! Thank you

5-18  started at 4am. Took the six finished bags from the PC and loaded the last 3. Set for 90 min @15 psi.

Mixed1 bag of spawn(3qts) and 2 bags(5-6qts ea) of sub in contractor bag mixed and filled lined tub. Repeated with 2 more bags.  Even double batches are too small. Have to wait on PC for the last 3 bags. Still have 2 extra bags of spawn sitting in inc. We will have to cook more sub and grain bags.

While waiting for PC to cool, Blurryfacepulled out some pre sterilized casing and we removed the foil from 3 volcano tubs, cased them and put them in the GH, set the humidity controller to 75%.  A couple hours later I check it and it was about 70%. I will have to dig out the manual so I can set the margins on the controller. I was already in to the Kettle One pretty deep and not ready to try and decipher the Chinese instructions so cranked the humidity up to 85 figuring even a 20 point swing is still golden.

5-21 Houston we have a problem.

One thing has been going through my head. How are those guys using small PCs to make enough sub for several  monos?

Since we are doing edibles also(if they stop dieing) and most instructions I find use weight vs volume, we decided to use weight for cube grow also so we weren't switching measurements constantly. I recently made 2 double batches of sub(48qts) and it was gone faster than the PC could cool. I re-read all the teks I use, and started the conversions again when it hit me. I was using volume to make the grain bags then used that figure as weight when adding the sub. End result is not 1:3 but closer to 1:6 by volume. All our current tubs will likely fail but the first 3 tubs of volcano give me hope for at least 1 flush before tamming out.  I will take a peek at 10 days but the last 6 tubs will likely incubate for 15 days if they don't tam first.

Good news is the process is making sense which is making it easier without clogging the site with "is this ok"  posts and pics.

@Moonphasenext ones will be better. So far the first 3 tubs are doing ok.

All 3 look like this. I folded the plastic down to help keep the edges from evaping to fast, but left it up enough for some fresh air.  Going to open it up in next day or so. Fingers crossed for tam free even pinset.

Maybe use the oven instead of the pc ?

I almost always pasteurize my substrate instead of sterilize. When I started pasteurizing, I would put the sub in quart jars and use my PC without the lid. But that still limited me to 7 qt at a time, maybe 3-4 more quarts if I used a second pot at the same time. I was running into the same problem, couldn’t keep up with making enough sub.

 I changed to using large disposable lasagna pans. I would fill up four of those at a time, seal with aluminum foil and put them in the oven. I can’t recall how many qts in each pan, I don’t have my notes with me.  I did get more evaporation with this method so I had to start with slightly extra water so that the end result was field capacity.

@SonshynI think it was my own brain fart.  1:6 or possibly 8 uses a lot of sub.

@El_Piraña I will read up on the tek. I can PC almost 42 quarts at a time, but pasteurizing does have its benefits.

@El_Piraña

@Sonshyn

 what pastuerization Tek do you use? I only saw a couple of mentions in the sub Tek section.  Both had  different times and temps.

I mix up the mono tub tek sub: coir-verm-cmc. Load into a contractor bag . Place that in a lasagna pan on top of cardboard in a 195 degree oven for the first hour and temp it probe thermometer. When it reaches 140 Drop the temp down to 175 and maintain at least 140 for an hour .

@El_Piraña I saw your tek,  but thought you had found another using the oven. It didn't click immediately PC or oven is just a heat source. My brain stuck on PC=sterilized.

@Sonshyndo you have any bag strength issues, or just leave in the oven until cool?

 Thanks guys.

Peeled the plastic back from the edges of that cased tubs.  First thing I noticed was a color difference between the edges and center. The center has been exposed to more evap. The edges have colonized further than the center with growth that could be primordial. Gave the center a good misting.

The tub on the top shelf is a little deeper than the other 2. It shows less growth. It could be from position in GH or unseen tam but my money is on extra depth of the tub.

The 5 tubs that are colonizing sub are in the GH still foiled. They are incubating at about 72. I ran out of room in the closet for tubs and felt the only difference between GH and incubator was just a few degrees in temp. This was emergency measure due to shortage of inc space for tubs. Hopefully will have more shelves in the incubator soon.

A pic from today. Same tote as 1st pic above.

This one is blanketed with pins but may need some zoom to see them. For free syringes, doing much better than I hoped.

6=2

there is growth on the AA and mitake bags nocced 5-27, though not enough for camera capture. The PE has no visible growth but a few sticky clumps at noc site so I think its starting too.

While digging through the inc  closet I found 3 bags of mitake on sawdust that had been forgotten or missed from 5-6. All about 30%. I shook the first 2 and spread the myc around. it was easy to see the areas affected by the myc because of a color difference. about 1/2 the bag was lighter than the other half. The third bag look great but upon initially breaking it, it turned green. Sorry no pic, it was rushed outside to the trash and the other bags in the area sprayed down with alcohol.  Both good bags placed back in inc.

Will update the GH with pics later today when I fan but last night's peek showed I might be picking volcano today. Totally stunned with how 2 of the tubs have taken off. The third may have tammed, nothing visible but growth has stalled or stopped.

I need more shelves in inc closet. There is no room for tubs so I have been forced move tubs to the GH after sub addition and foil. Since light isnt a factor, the only difference is temp. GH stays about 72. I expect slower growth and higher chance of tam due to slower growth for the tubs of GT and KSSS that are colonizing now.

Plans are  to start working on the flowhood build today, but maybe after breakfast.

One of the few side pins. Unfortunately the area the plastic was laying over hasn't fruited as fast.
