Another go at it

Started 6 wbs  jars from homemade spore prints and syringe . 6 jars wbs used for g2g from last run of grainspawn. The six from spore syringe colonized beautifully. In a black trash bag lightly closed, on the bottom shelf of my Martha. The g2g jars were colonizing but still  wispy. After my tubs were sent to the everlasting pile of shit in the sky( actually I sent a couple afloat down my canal) I turned on the seedling heat Mats and have been keeping my Martha at about 80 degrees . Two of my g2g jars got tammed, but the rest are ready to go. Doubled the recipe for substrate to make 8 dubs. 6 from spore and two from g2g. Curious to see the run results side by side.  Here are some pics.

First two and also picture of two jars are the g2g. Noticeably different colonization than the syringes. More Myc piss, and growth is not as dense. Even thought these two are almost a week younger, they have been growing much differently from the start.

First bag of sub pc’d. Waiting for it to cool some and getting another bag in there. Trying to get these bad boys In tubs by tonight.or early morning

First time giving this goodwill contraption a try for getting sub to field capacity. Squeezing by hand is for the birds. Worked better (squeezing 2 cups loose at a time) but still not what I’m looking for. Maybe gonna fabricate some type of wine press

I see some late night casing coming up with the parents fast asleep.   Getting substrate to field capacity varies from person to person depending on hand strength and stamina.   Seriously I hear you on the hand squeeze issue.   I was thinking about filling a 6 qt tub, or any containers that mate well, and putting an empty one on top then squeezing them together while pouring out the excess water.    A tip forum by subject would be great huh?   If you figure one out let us all know!   Great looking grain jars by the way!      👽

Figured fuck it. I have a lot of things out already, nocc’d up 10 jars of wbs with my last syringe of gt. I have prints , but it’s an excuse to order something different. 10 jars 10 cc’s ... no lines just quarter cc guesstimate squirts. I’m proud of myself. 😂. Now let’s see how they go. Not gonna peek at them till after my 10 day tub spawn run

I’ve been doubling recipe for tubs, so 1300 grams of coir,  two cups grounds, and two gallons water is labor intensive. I’ll figure something out but with two mating tubs or buckets is the way I was leaning. I’ll post something when I get it done...

also... I know my mom will be up baked , all interested.. my pop... not so much 😂😂

That's pretty cool if you ask me.

You need a giant salad spinner. Lol.

I have contemplated a harbor freight cement mixer for steaming grain dry, mixing sub and casing. The sub is biggest problem. Black Cow is wet. Impossible to calculate for field capacity. The rest can be calculated to determine correct amount of water.

I’ve got to where I cut the bag open and spread the black cow out a little bit on top of it . Keep it in a dry and ventilated place and let it dry out for a week or two.

It also helps for when I break it up into tiny pieces, no clumps .

Cats have access to all parts of house where I would be willing to cut open a bag of dirt/manure. I will suffer with black cow's original moisture content.😉

Verm is the biggest pieces. I mix the dry and CCM together with a drill mixer. Then hand mix the water.  Like PP, double is the smallest batch I make.  Happy to discuss this further but let's not clog PP's grow log.

Drained piss and cased... these were 8 tubs from spore print-syringe...

and these are two tubs from g2g from last go around for comparison

darker piss... and darker in color but still just as colonized...

What is that in inches or centimeters? It looks a lot deeper than I've got mine and I didn't completely follow any particular Tek.🙄

It’s a 6 quart tub..I followed mz’s 6 quart dub tub( mist and fan tek).all in all there’s a little over 4 quarts between, sub, grain, and casing ..it’s a small shoe tub filled 2/3 of the way.the tub is five inches and it’s filled a little over 3 inches

A week after being cased, in a gh at 85%-90% rh, and 73-78 degrees.. this is what I got....a few bruised from misting with hard water, but more than half have first site of pins... mist usually 3 times a day by opening gh,misting walls, and fanning with an old cafeteria tray for like 30-60 seconds, then zipping up with my desk fan at bottom blowing in and up constantly..

Bought different trash bags and 12 small containers today.   Couldn't find any that had flat bottoms.   They all seem to have that middle raised part to them.    Guess I'll sit down today and see if I can put some colonized grain spawn to substrate without any tams.    It's time to see if the Jalisco will do something.   Wish me luck.

@SonshynI think it was my own brain fart.  1:6 or possibly 8 uses a lot of sub.  @El_Piraña I will read up on the tek. I can PC almost 42 quarts at a time, but pasteurizing does have its benefits.
    • El_Piraña
I almost always pasteurize my substrate instead of sterilize. When I started pasteurizing, I would put the sub in quart jars and use my PC without the lid. But that still limited me to 7 qt at a time, maybe 3-4 more quarts if I used a second pot at the same time. I was running into the same problem, couldn’t keep up with making enough sub.  I changed to using large disposable lasagna pans. I would fill up four of those at a time, seal with aluminum foil and put them in the oven. I can’t recall how many qts in each pan, I don’t have my notes with me.  I did get more evaporation with this method so I had to start with slightly extra water so that the end result was field capacity.

Maybe use the oven instead of the pc ?

@Moonphasenext ones will be better. So far the first 3 tubs are doing ok. All 3 look like this. I folded the plastic down to help keep the edges from evaping to fast, but left it up enough for some fresh air.  Going to open it up in next day or so. Fingers crossed for tam free even pinset.
