First time grain jars: Ready to birth or nah?

Recommended Posts

Quick consultation:

Like the title says, are my jars ready to birth or nah?

These rye berry jars were nocc’d about 2.5-3 weeks ago using agar wedges. Two jars have some large pins/tiny fruits already which have developed in the two days between when these pics were taken to today (so they’re not super apparent in the attached photos). The rest have no pins, possibly some hyphae knots (you decide), and some areas up top with no colonization and no signs of additional growth within the past week, give or take a couple days.

My gut tells me they should all be birthed and make their way to bulk substrate as planned, however, sadly, my gut has not always been right when it comes to mycology based predictions.

Any help is greatly appreciated by yours truly!

Thanks in advance!

-Yukon

PS:  The jars have little pieces of tape with Roman numerals on them to help identify which jars are ready to be born and which ones should remain in their glass womb a little longer...

*Note: there is no jar #4 (“IV”) due to contamination :(

They look ready except maybe jar V.

that one appears to have uncolonized grains on top. Could there be contamination in this one?

My guess would be that maybe it dried out because it’s been dormant for about a week or so now and there are no signs of contams however i think it would be smart to  play it safe and open that fella outdoors, a good distance away from the lab.

Thanks for your insight!
