Outside GrowHouse Phoenix Oyster and Blue oyster

Recommended Posts

Hello every one that did not bypass a edible log. I have decided to share a grow I have been doing using phoenix oysters and later a blue oyster basket, I think its best just to start from the beginning. I did the same thing for both oyster species. but first I will log the phoenix. and the blues will be soon. I prepared 3 WBS jar, Inoculated them with LC. the colonization went real well, had no problems. I pasteurized straw by filling a pillow case up.. got a pot of water up to 180 degrees, added one table spoon of Mrs. Wadges lime. Placed the straw with a thermometer in the center of it in the pot and weighted it down with a rock. when the temp of the center of the straw reached 180 deg. I turned down the stove to very low to maintained the temp for 3 hours, even on the lowest setting or not running at all the straw inside temp was 170 deg. the whole time till I pulled it to drain, I then hung the bag of straw over the sink for 5 hour to drained and cool. post-1-0-83099200-1338244258_thumb.jpg post-1-0-54977700-1338244265_thumb.jpg post-1-0-23106100-1338244341_thumb.jpg I then layered the straw asn spawn in a laundry basket ans covered with a plastic bag with hole ssniped in the sides for air exchange ans some evaporation , the straw is very moist, so this is needed. post-1-0-87940300-1338244345_thumb.jpg The basket took normal time to colonization, 83 deg for 2 weeks and the myc was jumping off the straw. basket was place it in a Dub tub FC with water in the bottom, I had a fan running in the room and the temps were in the high 60 to low 70s.I woulsd mist it when ever I checked it post-1-0-42944400-1338244352_thumb.jpg the basket pinned a lot, the resulting pins would abort and/or they would grow no large then a child's pinky finger. the mushroom lacked visible color, being a white color. When I noticed them not growing anymore and new pins were forming I would harvest and new pins would grow on old aborts, it seemed to never stop pining. I harvested 4 times. post-1-0-83352500-1338244439_thumb.jpg post-1-0-71328800-1338244445_thumb.jpg post-1-0-53602900-1338244455_thumb.jpg pins starting on on another mushie

I was not satisfied with the results, I became very discouraged about the strain and getting a print or good mushroom to clone. I decided to change growing conditions to better RH and FAE.and move it outside to a GH I was making for a large blue oyster basket I have . I have a existing out side grow location , it sits in a north east corner of a nook in the house much like a L , the location is cooler in temps then the rest of my property, creating a mirco climate. I have a shipping crate used for stone. I use them as compost bins. the took one and place it in the location. I ran a soak-er hose around the inside of the crate and covered it all with 3 mm clear plastic. soaked the heck out to the GH. cleaned all the pins and mushies off the basket, soaked it ans move it out side. post-1-0-79835000-1338244841_thumb.jpg post-1-0-98876600-1338244849_thumb.jpg one day two out side I saw very nice pin/mushrooms forming post-1-0-92129100-1338244867_thumb.jpg then the next day, they looked like this post-1-0-28254400-1338244877_thumb.jpg I think they are going to work good out there, I will have the updates as the days go on and I will also post the blue basket when, just have to make the room in the GH,

the GH was very hot whn I went out this morning, it does get some sun, so I opened it up and let the air in and rand the soak er hose to cool it off a bit. today I put a wood pallet in the GH and placed the blue oyster basket in there also. post-1-0-89476600-1338245002_thumb.jpg post-1-0-93766700-1338245009_thumb.jpg post-1-0-60890400-1338245016_thumb.jpg

I like them dryed the best and then rehyrated , but fresh one are great also, they are meaty in texture and compliment a lot of food dishes

oysters are good for you too! In that type of GH pink oysters would flourish IMO. They like it pretty warm, maybe more than the phoenix even!

Those look like they would be tricky to get a print from. Seems I saw a kit from 101 or the works place. $20.....dont know abt their shipping.

they opened up very good, took the moment to snap some pic of the baby picking mushroom with me. I took some prints, just placed them one some foil on a clean box, same why I took the oyster print before. post-1-0-32034400-1338245121_thumb.jpg post-1-0-09213500-1338245161_thumb.jpg post-1-0-19839100-1338245168_thumb.jpg post-1-0-98806100-1338245379_thumb.jpg
