  1. Trichoderma and other contamination.

Hey guys. It has been a LONG time since I've been here. The reasons are too long to list... but .... I felt compelled to share this. I got back into a small scale grow experiment, and ended up with Trich on at least a portion of every cake. I had been searching for ways to fight Trich, and finally found something that looked plausible. I noticed that most Trich species love more acidic media. Also I found a post somewhere where the person said they: 1 - cut away the infected spots, 2 - VERY LIGHTLY spritzed the cut away area, and any other surface contamination with Lysol spray. Then gave only 30 seconds before rinsing well under tap water. 3 - Did the normal dunk and roll sequence after that. And claimed it usually worked for them. I made a modification when I did this. I didn't have Lysol spray handy so I used a generic disinfectant spray from the Dollar Store. Then I quick rinsed it with straight hydrogen peroxide 3%. THEN I rinsed it under tap water. And remembering the acid vs alkali preference, I did 24 hour dunk using 8.8pH bottled water from Iceland. There are different brands but they all taste the same to me - Icelandic and Glacieau are the two brands I found so far. It did take longer to finally pin, but I did get growth, and no Trich showing its ugly face anywhere. Two partial cakes fruiting so far. Has anyone here done anything like this before?

  3. First timer here

So I’m using half pint wide mouth jars. (12) I did the 2:1:1 ratio Verm was med grade and I used bobs mill for flour. I steam sterilized using foil to cover my inoculation holes and maybe had a bit too much water in creating moisture inside my jars. Inoculated anyway after they cooled over night. It’s been 8 days no mycelium. I know it could take up to 14 days even but I just would like some of the veterans opinions. Have you had jars that looked like this work out? This is the worst one I have.
  4. Hello everyone.. was waiting to get approved and it finally happened and I am glad to be a part of the shroomology family. I’d just like to post my results thus far from my first time growing brf cakes with golden teacher and b+ strains. After initial inoculation of 17 tall half pint jars( 4 duds) so I was left with 13 fully colonized jars after about a month or so.. I had zero contaminated jars. For a first grow I was stoked! Almost all jars started pinning in vitro ( mainly because I kept jars in clear tub and checked them a lot because of my excitement.once pins were picked before first dunk and roll after birthingi got 4 grams dry for a fun first test run.. ( great btw!) It’s now been a couple weeks and have gotten my first flush and am currently dunking to prep for second flush.. all in all I got 40 grams cracker dry, and what an amazing thing to watch and experience. I used fine verm and brf for cakes. Indoors my setup has remained 76 degrees and I built standard sfc with quarter inch holes 2 inches apart on all sides of 56 quart clear tub except lid. Full bag (8quarts) of perlite for bottom of sfc. Miracle grow was all that was available but it’s doing great so far. Put a fish tank bubbler system in through one of the holes in sfc which then was placed in half pint jar filled to top with water and is on at all times. I do have a clip light that I leave on for about 4 hours a day, but there is also ambient light during the day from a window in the room.I mist and fan from 3-6 times daily. Not really sure where I’m going with this, but I’d like to post this to get any feedback and also to help anyone if possible although I am a newbie .want to try bulk monotub or something of the sort next.ill enclose pics of my babies.. and thank you all for the crazy amount of info I’ve studied and put into play thanks to this site. Just inoculated 10 more jars so I’m gonna document and keep track in greater depth this time to dial in and improve from first grow. I’ve included a few random photos as well .Happy tripping guys!!
  5. Hey guys. So I’m going to be leaving for the weekend (leave late Friday night come home early Monday morning/Sunday middle of the night) and I’m worried about my cakes. I have four cakes in my SGFC right now. One cake finishing its first flush (will be picked by tomorrow or Friday morning most likely), one cake on its second flush which has just starting showing a few pins, and two cakes on their first flush that have not begun pinning yet. I’ve been misting and fanning several times a day, keeping up moisture and humidity levels while giving lots of fae. I’m worried about leaving them for so long unattended and am hoping there might be some setup I can do to give them the proper environment for the weekend. Cheers
  6. Hey guys so it’s my first grow and I’m getting ready to try and print some guys but the tops of my caps are a blackish purple color on some and I want to make sure these guys are safe. They also started to droop a bit the last day or two.
  7. Hey there to all my senpais (don't worry I just like to act like I'm retarded). I a new hobbyist in the southeastern US in the beginning of my first incubation.. I've had a good bit of expeirence with hallucinogens but I grew tired of paying for them and waiting for them to pass through so I planned a long tolerance break from everything and dedicated a lot of time to learning and getting a home grow started. Now I have 7 nice little 1/2 pint brf cakes with about 6 days of growth. So here comes my question. I'm trying and failing to leave my cakes alone., but I've observed my mycelium to be a bit uneven... I guess. Two jars have long sections of what appears to be rhizomorph from my verm top layer to the bottom of the cake. But it is tinted ever so slightly yellow. I may just be obsessing but just curious if you guys think so too. Doubt the photo quality is decent enough. Also, is if normal to have big runs like that and only spotting mycelium in the other jars?
