  1. Ok, so I need some assistance. In the past I helped a friend with his cultivation and picked up some great tips and tricks along the way. Here I am 7 years later and I am starting up my own cultivation and experiments. So far I have crafted a glove box out of a clear, weatherproof tote that worked very well for the inoculation process. I have also designed and created an incubation chamber out of an ice chest, a reptile heating pad, and an on/off thermometer switch. It's working great and I am currently two weeks past inoculation with amazing and beautifully healthy mycelium. I've broken it up twice already (it's on grain spawn) but I think I will need to do this more often, the second time was fairly difficult to break up. Moving on to why I am posting this in the first place..... I have uploaded a picture here. It's a crude drawing on paint but I think it is fairly comprehensible. Basically I designed this fruiting chamber off some similar work I did with my buddy 7 years ago and wanted to run it past the minds on this board to see what you all think, and what could be improved. The idea here is that once I swap to my bulk sub (coco+verm) in a Sterilite 6qt. "shoebox" and it is fully inoculated I will place the box into the fruiting chamber (a larger Sterilite) and from there it should be pretty much automated until it's time to harvest. I'll have four of these fruiting chamber total to start, but there is one air pump and fogger for every two chambers, hence the drawing. Before you ask why the 4 chambers as opposed to one or two monotubs there are several reasons. One is space, this setup fits into my closet much nicer than the larger tubs. Second is quality, if there is an issue with one for any reason I can toss it and still have the others. Third is experimentation, this will allow me to try different subs at the same time on the same strains for a side-by-side comparison. Last is quantity, I can cultivate different stains at the same time or rotate them in a manner that allows for near constant harvesting if done properly. The airpump and fogger/mister are hooked up to the same power supply, which will be kicked on and off either by a timer or by a hydrometer placed inside one of the chambers for FAE and humidity. This way I can either use a timer to kick on the automated FAE several times a day or set the hydrometer to something like 100% humidity which will kick on when it drops below that. Whether or not to go with a timer or a hydrometer is one thing I would like to answer here with your help. The fogger/mister water will likely have about a cap full of hydrogen peroxide just to help cut down on any possible contams. The air from the pump will be fed into the fogger/mister pot and will in turn feed the humidified air from there into the fruiting chambers. The 6qt. "shoebox" will be raised off the floor of the fruiting chamber, this should allow the CO2 to sink to the bottom of the chamber and be expelled through a one-way valve whenever the airpump/fogger/FAE system kicks on. So, thoughts? Critiques? Wanna tell me how stupid this is? Or is it brilliant? Kinda piecing it together from memory of when I helped my buddy as well as some modification from my own thoughts. His setup worked great so I know something like this is doable...... well?
  2. So this is from a grow I started 13 days ago and thought it good timing to do the WBS “shake”.My question is this has anyone experienced three diff forms of mycelium growth all coming from the same strain and same spore syringe?The picture should put things in perspective.

    Dub Tub Help, Stalled Tubs!

    Hey guys, let me start off by saying that I love the forums and members here. Been a lurker for a long time on the site and have gained alot of valuable info from all of you. Thanks for all you do! Now, this is my first post here and my first grow. I'm using the method linked below and have followed it to the letter, save for one mistake which I'll mention in a sec. I'm growing 2 strains of cubensis; Costa Rican and Albino Penis Envy. Everything has gone wonderfully until I started fruiting. The CR's were ready for fruiting before the APE's were, but for both I did the spawn run for 14 days, then did a 1/4 inch casing of a mix of lime, coarse verm, and sphagnum peat moss. For the CR's, I used this light brown ropy shit from the pet store that said it was sphagnum moss, and realized that mistake when I saw no pins whatsoever after 13 days, at which point I did heavy research and found the mistake. I scrapped that casing and used the correct stuff. See the pic of the original casing vs pics of the right stuff at the end of the post (can't figure out how to keep typing below the uploaded pictures, why they're at the end). First pic is the garbage case, and the rest are two tubs of APE, two tubs of CR, a close up of the kind of pins I'm seeing, and the closed tubs. The closed tubs have no moisture on the walls/top in the pic because i wiped off the condensation, for fear of water droplets causing what pins I do have to abort. But they're usually moderately condensated. I've been misting and fanning 3x daily, 12 hours of light on and 12 off, keeping the temp at 65-68°. The pins showed up after 3 days in fruiting conditions (after correct casing was applied) and havent budged since, plus no new pins have graced me with their presence. I have seen a bit of myc growth through parts of the casing, but beyond that it's been totally stalled. I'm at a loss for what to do here. Done days of research with no helpful info. I would really appreciate some feedback and advice on how to welcome my mushies into the world! Thanks in advance, guys.
  4. Hello everyone. This is my first post here. I have become interested in growing mushrooms, and had a few general questions. I was wondering what one should do after each flush, do I soak, or spray, or leave alone? And for mushroom cultures can those store in the fridge for longer periods of time? Also during monotub cultivation, do yeilds drop on second flush if mushrooms are picked from the mycelium rather than cut? Any information is appreciated as I am just starting to learn about these things. I was looking at this tek if anyone was wondering;
  5. I would like to know if anyone knows any viable substitutes for agar while working with petri dishes. I can get agar no problem I'm just looking for ideas for experimenting with. I'm not really trying to get a successful harvest i just like messing around with mycology and seeing what you change in your process can do to the culture.That's why i joined the community to check out other people's grows and experiments.Thanks for any suggestions.
  6. Hey guys, I'm fairly new to growing Magic mushrooms and I'm about to start my first cultivation. I live in QLD, Australia. I'm trying to grow my shrooms in a fairly large drawer in my wardrobe. This drawer could easily fit a small shotgun fruiting chamber as Im only growing personal amounts. I live with fairly nosey roommates hence why Im trying to hide my fruiting chamber. My Idea was to put a small fishtank air pump (this one in particular https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MTSR8Y8/ref=psdc_2975471011_t1_B0009YJ4N6) under my shotgun fruiting chamber to provide adequate fresh air exchange. Because my fruiting chamber is in a drawer, I was planning to buy light that can be set on a timer to provide adequate, but not too much, light. I would then spray my fruiting chamber with water in a spray bottle for humidity. I was thinking of drilling a hole in the drawer and running a power board from inside the drawer to the closest power outlet. this power board would allow me to run the light and air pump inside the drawer. I have a few questions about my idea. 1. is this a good idea? (hahahaha) 2. what kind of light/led should I buy and what time interval should I set it on 3. how often should I spray my chamber to maintain the humidity 4. Is putting a powerboard in a drawer with a high humidity a good idea? I would appreciate any tips and feedback and I am fully aware of the risks about growing in a place that I share with other people (please don't chew my head off).
