  1. Hey guys so I use an awesome product for my Cannabis growing that works VERY well for my soil micro biologics called Aphrodite's Extraction by Nectar for the GODs. it is a carbon product it has .1% Sucrose and .1% Glucose and 1% P2O5 which is Mono-Potassium Phosphate which is an inorganic plant food. I use this specific sugar over say molasses for the sheer fact that the sugar has a smaller molecular chain making the sugar more "Bit Sized" so to speak for my soil Microbe's where ass molasses and other sugars Like Karo corn sugar have long molecular chains which takes a lot longer for the beneficial micro organisms to break down and use to multiply. SOOOOOOOOOOO...... I'm curious as to if anyone has tried to use this AMAZING product in a liquid culture for Mycology given its amazing use in microbe teas and hydroponic use for Mycorrhizal fungi population growth which I use this product for on a daily basis. (I have 5 gallons of it) and so I am hoping to use this in conjunction with my mycology I have a few verities of mushrooms on the way including Turkey Tail and Red Reshi liquid culture syringes that I want to make into more Liquid Cultures. =) My concern is the Mono-Potassium Phosphate (1%) in the product giving it an NPK of 0-1-0 if that is a problem for the mycelium since there is no plant to eat the said Phosphorus out of the water even though it dose not harm soil microbe's they reproduce like crazy with the use of the simple sugars ( bit sized pieces) to populate and germinate in teas and hydro systems. So if anyone has tried it or has a degree in Micro Biology or just knows if the P2O5 at a 1% concentration would be extremely detrimental and harmful to mushroom Mycelium that would be dope! If I don't get any responses or no one knows then i'm going to give it a try and see how it works out cause what's 1oz out of 5 gallons right? LOL ;)
  2. I have a jar that has completely colonized on the outside just the other day and I want to know how long until I can dunk it and birth it? it is a 125ml 1/2 pint jar
  3. I made hippy piss the other night. When I pulled the jars out I saw the micropore tape had melted. It's the tape that was over the brass insert stuffed with polyfill. Is this normal?
  4. Hey, I'm new to liquid cultures, and a couple of the ones I have look like they are ready to be used. What is the best way to suck up the solution? Just shake up the solution, tip the jar on it's side until I can get the needle barely into the liquid and suck it up? Also, is sterile technique the same as if you were to use a spore needle on jars? Just flame it and go? Or do I need a SAB. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!
  5. Hey, I'm wondering if shaking a liquid culture is necessary or is it okay to just leave giant blobs of mycelium and break it up with a syringe when i decide to use it? Is the liquid culture better when you shake it or no?
  6. Hey, I want to clone some of my penis envies to LC, and I've been using the method lately with normal shrooms where you stab the stem of the fruit body with a sterile syringe and then shoot the piece of stem into your LC. It's generally a fast and easy method. Penis envy however seems to have a different type of stalk from what im used to. it's more spongy? I did the syringe method and i didnt seem to get any flesh into my LC, and only sediment which im guessing was inside of the stem. Would this syringe method still work if I stab the cap to get a piece of meat instead of the stem? Thanks
  7. So I'm currently in the process of trying to grow my first batch of Golden Teachers. I did quite a bit of research but not enough i dont think. Also, it seems like everyone has their own style and technique. I will write out everything I've done up to this point and add pics in the end. Please let me know where I messed up. 1. I got sterilized grain bags and injected the spores into them 2. after about a week they were almost completely white so I decided it was time to mix it with the substrate in a monotub I made from youtube using 8 1.5" holes with polyfill and lined with black contractor back. 3. For substrate I boiled vermiculite and Coco quire and mixed them together after they had cooled of and soaked to the right amount, where if you squeeze it drips a small stream. 4. I broke apart all the grain from the colonized bags and mixed it in with the substrate. 5. I put a Hygrometer inside the tub and set in in a dark room. At this time the monotub has polyfill in the holes and i've later read that you should have them covered with tape until you want them to go into FC, not sure? 6. I kept it in the dark room for 5-6 days and it looked pretty white everywhere, and i got too impatient that i put it out in ambient light for a day then decided maybe it needs a few more days in the dark. 7. It has now been in the monotub a total of 7 days. Please see pics below and let me know where i effed up. If this first grow fail i will try again but want to make sure I dont make the same mistakes twice.
  8. I was wondering if my cake looked like there was more pins on its way? cause I have only had the two since ive birthed it which was 2 am on the 20th. The pins started in the jar so I birthed it but they haven't grown a lot since then, why are they growing so slow, should they be bigger after two days?
  9. I innoculated the jars on the 20th of sept within alacabenzi lc it is now the 9th day, I innoculated straight downwards into the Substrate because I didi not know you were supposed to inject it to drip down the glass, there is healthy mycelium growing on one part but at the bottom there is some yellow orange, Is this bacteria or is it just early mycelium metabolites?
  10. I innoculated some jars with some Alacabenzi Liquid culture syringes and one jar that has some healthy Mycelium growing at the innulation point downwards but when you look at the bottom it has some yellow/Orange color on the bottom of the jar in the middle that is the size of a quarter It is just plain substrate though, is this early Mycelium Metobolites fighting a contaminent or is it a contaminent?
  11. I innoculated this jar on the 20th of Sept with Alacabenzis, Is this healthy looking mycelium?
  12. Any advise looking to start a clean home based grow opp and advise would be welcomed tricks and easy DIY options. If i must get spawns locally or online looking for a high psychedelic upper strain? Im from RSA it a indoors set up so temp control so any ideas on a quality easy to bulk, grow strain with a extra psychedelic upper kick? Medical and recreational grows. Was told (penis envy) strain but keen for advise in regards a perfect set up and strain. Watched the tutorials of the basic bulk run a little slow sometimes any helping hands for a Noob Mushy Ninja. Scaling down indoor set up too add a mushy grow so help and research key very OCD when comes to grows so HELP please form the OG's of mush grow that might be lurking about knowledge is power so sharing is caring hahaha.
  13. I recently got done doing grain to grain transfers of Rye Berry jars. One of the jars had some colonized grain sticking to the side, so I added sterilized water I had pressure cooked injected into the jars and swirled it around 2 dislodge the mycelium from the Rye to create a liquid mycelium solution. I then took a sterile syringe and sucked up about 15 cc's of liquid inoculant. Seems to me I got a lot of mycelium floating around in the mycelium water. There's a chance there could be some contaminants, and nothing is ever a hundred percent sterile. I want to know if anyone else has ever tried this before and if you think it would work to inoculate fresh Rye grain. My grain spawn was clean with no weird colors or smells. Thanks
  14. Hey guys, new here with two questions.. First, is there really anything stopping me from using a ship on a grain jar topped with foil instead of rtv and tyvek lid? Also, when it come to making lc, why do the teks show a ship and a syringe filter? I don't understand where or why the filter comes into play. Thanks and I appreciate any feedback and I REALLY appreciate everything everyone here does. This has been a great find for me.
  15. My spores are showing growth and I posted a pic of the agar I inoculated with one of the syringes I had of liquid culture I made 2 years ago along with the new pics of the spores on my other thread, on Monday I made up some small jars of wheat berries & inoculated them each with a different syringe of liquid culture and they're showing growth too I thought I'd use them for a grain to grain transfer if they're good, there was 4 syringes and I made 6 small jars. Here's a pic of 2 of them. Also a pic of one of the giant pan I made my prints from and some wbs in half gallon jars of pan I used liquid culture to inoculate. I always use agar to make the LC and haven't had any problems with contamination.
  16. I received a pan cyan Hawaii print from the awesome @magicman. In a glovebox, I made a multi-spore syringe from the print. The day after, I used it to inoculate hippy piss liquid culture. I'm using mushroom grow bags for grain colonization. The bags are small size, with 0.5 micron filter patches. I made my own SHIPs with red silicone. I placed 3/4 cup of medium grade vermiculte at the bottom of each bag and then filled each bag with 3 quart jars' worth of WBS. PC'd the bags for 90 minutes at 15 psi. Afterward, I inoculated the bags with the LC. One bag is nocced with an entire 25 ML syringe of LC. One bag is nocced with 12 ML of LC. The other two bags are nocced with 6 ML each. I will observe the growth rates and note any differences. They are now in the TiT incubator at 80*. I hope for a successful grow and will attempt to gather prints from this grow to circulate into this awesome Ology community.
  17. So this is my very first LC 1.5 Pint Jar Light Corn Syrup Barley Malt Syrup (I have powder now for maybe a second one pending this one) PC'ed 90min@15PSI Cooled for 24 hours Innoc 05FEB - Kept at about 75F How is it looking? I swear it's like a game of second guessing yourself every night while reading forums. I worry it's sooo caramel yet. As I've read a bit the myc should be taking a bit of the color out.

    Alacabenzi Log

Hello Everyone, It has been a while since Iv had a log. I got a syringe years ago from who knows where. but it says alacabenzi on it. I did Noc two jars of grain. I will get into how i prep grains and such later in this log. One contam and other was so/so. nothing i wanted to risky to grow out. So I took Grain to agar. After three Transfers, Now the agar looks ready for use. I did make a slurry mix and put to LC. hope to test that in about a week. Here are some pics. Agar mix: malt, agar + little bit of yeast (food coloring to make black (red+blue) The White hand shows where i took my sample to put to another agar dish. The black hand shows a fight that i want to stay away from Noc a small jar to keep in my fridge for long term storage and other uses (sorry pic sucks) LC mix is also the Malt+karo mix That will do it for now. As soon as i see good growth i will be putting to Red milo grain.
  19. Is the darkish color contamination? Thanks for any replies

    My Beginning

I would Love if people could learn from my experience and so I will try to be thorough. Also as you will find, I like numbers (especially time, and price) If anyone can correct me for wrong doing I would appreciate it as I would like to become part of the community. I WILL MARK ANY MAJOR MISTAKE I MADE THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS WITH A STAR ** STARTING- It took me around 3 days to do the research that I needed to get started and decided to make the leap and order my spores online. I am guessing that the vendor is a sponsor being that MUSH ZOMBIE referenced them in his tutorial, if not I apologize but they are great. I ended up with a 4 for $40 deal from http://www.lilshopofspores.com. They even threw in an additional syringe for free. The pack included Texas, Brazil, Mazatapec, Malabar, and Fiji for free but the deal always changes. I would suggest getting a deal where ever you order yours from because as a beginner you get to try more than one type for cheaper. Price is big for me because you cant just go breaking the bank for fun. They equipment you need cost me around $80 to get me started not including the spores but that's because I went all out. If you go with REZ-EFFECT and follow in my footsteps you will need the Following equipment to get you started.- -(1) 12 pack of 1qt canning Jars -$10 tops **-(1) tube RTV High temp silicone. (Gasket Maker) can be found in the automotive section at wallmart - no more than $10 probably more like $7** I got red.. dont. get clear.** -(1-2) big bags Wild Bird Seed (WBS) preferably with as little sunflower seeds as possible. -$7 -(1) small jug Karo Corn syrup for liquid culture because why not start some. -$5 -(1) bug O bag of vermiculite. -$10-15. -(1-4) tivek envelopes or just a roll o tivek. PREPARATION- I am not going to go into too much detail because you can follow the specifics from the link above. What really got be was the pressure cooking guys. I had some hard time figuring out. I bought one on ebay for $30 with no pressure gauge but luckily I found someone who owned one with the gauge. I would suggest going the extra dollar for a gauged lid cooker though I found that you dont need the gauge once you know what to expect but learning was difficult without one. My cooker holds 7 Jars which works just fine if you are planning to PC (Pressure cook) 12 wbs jars and a LC (Liquid Culture) or 2 So it takes me 2 runs to get all of them in. So far I have gone through this whole process a few times in the last month or so. But I have learned that simply putting your largest burner at just less than medium heat and walking away for 90 minutes is the way to go. should sit around 15 PSI after about 10 min build up. **Also I made the mistake of not using enough water the first time and opened the bad boy up to find that the wbs had cooked a bit and my tivek filters melted.** Fill the PC up until the jars almost start to float but still stay still. **Also make sure to put the wobble thing or throttle on the PC** if you don't it spouts steam and never builds pressure. It took my jars around 8 hours to cool on their own but about 4 or 5 with a fan. KNOCKING- ** I forgot to shake one of my syringes. DONT** The spore clump was wasted on one jar and all that was left was barely enough to inoculate a liquid culture. BTW I put 2 hols in my LC. one for the self healing port and the second for gas exchange, other than that it was just one qt distilled water and one tablespoon karo. check that.. though if you ever do forget to shake it, dont throw it away or waste the rest on a spawn jar, trust me they take forever to grow, just knock up a LC and use that to inoculate a bunch of jars. When it comes to the healing port though, I find that clear works best but I also had some fall off. no good. I used a tooth pick to spread out any seals that looked too perfect so that they stick to the filter a little better. I used 1cc from my syringes per jar and made sure to save the last cc for a LC. TIME- My first day I inoculated 15 spawn jars (3 of which came from the unshaken syringe) which was just over half a bag of WBS and put them in a box with an electronic temp gauge poked through the side and a tiny space heater on the lowest setting pointed at the box (moving it farther or closer to get the right temp. I managed to keep it at a perfect 80 degrees. A few days later I knocked up another 12 jars and 2 LCs. By the time I put in the additional 12, I was seeing signs of growth from the first ones, hardly any growth from the 3 mess ups but plenty from the 12 good inoculations. Knowing that you are supposed to shake them after around 10 days** I shook one that was doing very well after about 8 days just see if it would help or hurt.** HURT** wait at least 10 days or until you see solid growth on all 4 sides of the jar, maybe even a little more for ones that are taking their time. 10 days go by, I shake my 1st batch and wait 3 days to shake the 2nd batch. It has been a week since I mixed my first and 3 since my second and oddly enough they are all around the same level of growth. Goes to show that different spores show different results. CONTINUING- I didn't want to wait, I started another batch with the last of the second bag and one of my jars broke broke in the pressure cooker. BUT I also started 3 new LCs with what was left of all my syringes. The only difference is that instead of using spore syringes, I used my liquid culture to inoculate. It was difficult for me to find anything about LC so here is what I have got so far 1 to 2 CCs from a spore syringe to inoculate a jar of liquid culture. can be incubated at the same temp as spawn jars so anywhere from 75 to 81 degrees. It only takes around 3 days to see substantial growth of live mycelium forming a cloud inside the jar. I would suggest figuring out a magnetic stir stick to break up cloud periodically as shaking too vigorously can damage the mycelium. You can reuse your syringes for your LCs and here is how. 3 cups. one with bleach, 2 with water. start by pulling up and filling the syringe with water from water cup 1, then dump. Pull up and fill with bleach or isopropyl alcohol, dump. Lastly clean out by pulling up water from water cup 2 and dumping. Now swirl LC to break up cloud and turn jar on side or upside down with needle inside (Flame that sucker first) and pull up a good amount of mycelium and water. Now knock your jars with around 2cc s for shorter incubation times. MOVING UP- I got tired of the box. I also have too many jars to fit and no place to safely fruit. I built a shelf -the main reason I want to show off- and got myself a temperature controller so to get the exact temp for incubation. Here is the shelf For some reason many of my images failed to upload. I may try later. I just hope people see this. BTW the holes in the shelf are to allow airflow to keep the whole box the same temp. I used 2x4s for legs, 1x2s for supports, plywood for shelves and cardboard for sides and doors, seemed better than hinges and all. It was also easier to keep everything tight. Thhe top are older and going very well. Soon going to put in fruiting conditions.
  21. Hello. I am wondering how long and what visual cues I can go by to see if my LC culture is complete. It has been at 78-80deg for 12 days since inoculation and I see growth but unsure what growth should look like. I will take a pic tommorow If i need to but in the mean time do any of you have pictures of LC at certain stages so I can see if I'm on track? It has white mycelia growing but it's kinda fuzzy looking. If someone can help I would appreciate it.
  22. Hello everyone. I have a simple question for whoever can help me which is probably everyone . I am conducting my first LC malt and karo project and I had pressure cooked my 4 jars at 15psi for 30 min. I was suppose to inoculate today but I can't so I will tommorow . Would they be ok sitting in PC for 48 hours after sterilization if I don't open lid. Or should I make a new batch tonight for tommorow ? Thank you very much.

    The myc is beautiful

From the album: Pan Cyan Hawaii

It's hard to get a good picture of this, but I think it's beautiful the way mycelium spreads in LC. It branches out like little fluffy clouds. It looks almost like a part of the human nervous system. I had the chance to see The Bodies exhibit in Las Vegas. It has preserved human bodies and organs. They managed to preserve the nerves and nerve endings of the nervous system - just that, no flesh or skin or anything - and it looked like this. Beautiful, methinks.
  24. Hey all. Just received a GT spore print (thanks magican!!!) and i am not quite ready to start my grow yet. I was thinking either to store my print, or at least try and get a liquid cultire going. How can i make a liquid culture with this spore print so atleast that can get going while i finish gather together my supplies (... a pressure cooker! ) Also, is there a way to do this without a syringe? I have no clue where to get a syringe like the ones necesary for Innoculation.
