  1. Hello! I'm a noob here with just a couple posts, and this is my first grow. Seems like this took years LOL! To recap, my first issue was grain spawn progress getting stuck, which turned out to be because I had omitted Tyvek on my jars. Once it was pointed out to me that the myc was suffocating, I took a chance and poked through the silicone seal and hoped for the best. Out of seven jars I did this to, two became obviously contaminated. I dug a hole in the backyard, threw an old log into it and poured the tammed jars in and buried, hoping for a surprise later. Bottom line, don't skip the Tyvek! Next, I took my five remaining jars and put each in a 6qt tub with coir, mixed it all up, made sure the surface was even but not packed, covered each with foil and put back in the incubator to spawn. Problem was, since my grain got stuck earlier, I was now running into the holidays with a planned trip. So after 14 days in the incubator (and right before my holiday trip), on the advice of @Mushinist (THANK YOU!) I opened them up for casing, intending to case and put back into the incubator for 4 more days until I returned. Opening each up I only had one of them tammed, it was also planted in the backyard with a log and a prayer. The remaining four looked healthy. I didn't say they looked good. I think that my sub was a little too moist, and it was unevenly moist -- I had PC'ed it in a bag, and a lot of the moisture had pooled in the lower part of the bag, so getting the field capacity right was difficult. I wasn't off enough to kill it, but the surface of two tubs were very moist and it seemed like the more moisture there was the more uneven it got. Anyway, I cased the four tubs with the 50/50+ recipe using peat and verm and put them in the incubator until I returned from my holiday trip. A note on the casing: it was difficult for me to measure the peat as a volume measurement as per the recipe. I mean, the stuff is not dense. Are you supposed to mash it down? If so how much? What about all the stems and sticks? It seemed like after PCing the verm turned to mud with metallic flecks and the peat just disappeared, so my casing was more verm than anything. It still worked though, with some difficulties I will point out in a minute. Cracking open the incubator, things still looked good (i.e., no tam!) but some of the myc had just partied on the casing layer so everything was even more uneven. I dropped the temp to 68-ish and began fanning and misting. Soon I had pins (pencil is only for size reference, not pointing at anything). Then I had some mushies coming up. This was really just amazing to watch as a first-timer. Before I knew it, it was time to harvest. In each tub, some fruit was ready earlier than others, a lot earlier. I ended up picking those that had dropped the veil and were starting to drop spores, and fanned and misted the others to harvest no more than 12-14 hours later. This seemed to work pretty well as it gave the smaller fruits more time to grow and bulk up, which they did. Now here is where I had some trouble with the casing. I don't know if this is just part of the harvest for everyone, but the areas of myc that had broken through the casing tended to grow multiple stems on the same base, and these were difficult to get out -- the shrooms that had grown individually were relatively easy to twist and rock out, but the multiples always brought a good chuck of myc with them. Moreover, since the casing layer was heavy on the verm, the bases had these little paper-thin metallic verm flecks that were super hard to clean off. So much so that I really want to avoid verm as a casing material if possible! I got a toothbrush and cleaned them up as much as possible, but it was not a good time and I ended up just cutting a lot of it off. This photo shows what I'm talking about. Very messy. I don't have a digital scale (yet), but a kitchen scale showed yields (fresh) of about 14oz per tub, which at this point seems like a lifetime supply of medicine! (And in the meantime, trying to refine my technique I started another 7 jars. They are looking amazing, ready to move to tubs in a few days, but my timing once again is off because I have more flushes on this first grow to go...). I think I need to try some edibles or something so I can keep growing. Anyway, here is one final picture for you, cracker dry: Any pointers are appreciated. Thanks so mush for all your help!
  2. Hi, Psilocybin Spirit here. Since two months I've been getting into mycology. Recently I got all my supplies which cost me around $650 I'll be updating this post with my progress. (note: I live in a country where there are no american pc's, or at least only one sold for $300, also it's hard to get your hands on other supplies that are easy to get in America.) Supplies I gathered: - Presto 23qrt pressure cooker - A dehydrator with 8 trays, metal with temp control and a timer. - 2 bags of vermiculite - 2 bags of perlite - A little humidifier - A huge bag of coco coir - BRF spawn - A spore syringe: McKennaii - 3 63qt sterilite tubs with little wheels that elevate the tub for FAE (surface is flat) one will be used as a SGFC the other one as a mono and the third one as a SAB. - A mouthcap, scalpel, desinfectant spray, desinfectant wipes, gloves, antibacterial soap, bleach, alcohol - 2 dot its - A RH/temp meter - 20 half pint jars - a huge bin with a lid for substrate pasteurisation - 3 rolls of micropore tape - 2 boxes to use as trays in the SGFC (enough depth) - Gypsum - strainers, bowls, cutting boards etc.. the additional stuff Now I want to do a monotub first. Gonna fill 20 half pint jars with verm/brf mix and put a layer of verm on top. 5 holes in the lid for inoculation. Gonna pressure cook for 90mins and let it cool off for 24 hours. Gonna build a simple SAB with two big holes for my arms and use a damp towel with a bleach water mix and desinfect it with the spray. Wait 30 mins. Flame sterilise needle (which is already sterile but inbetween the inoculation of different jars) outside of the box just for safety as the desinfectant is flammable. Gonna use gloves, shower before, desinfect the area and clesn it and spray around with the desinfectant and let that linger for 30mins. Gonna clean the gloves with antibacterial soap and wear a mouthcap and a beanie (as I have long hair) After inoculation I'll put on micropore tape on the holes for safety. Not sure whether to put the jars in the complete dark or give them a natural cycle of light and dark. Seems to be different opinions on that. As the mycelium is colonised I'll prepare my substrate which will be Damian's 50/50 coir tek. I will also add a bit of gypsum, but how much? After getting the substrate ready per tek, I'll layer the monotub with a layer of substrate, then spawn, then substrate and so on. Or do you guys advice me to just crumble up the spawn and mix it without layering it? After that I'll store it in a huge cardboard box in the dark. At which temp should I keep my house? As soon as the substrate is colonised the fruiting process can begin. I will measure the temp and humidity with the meter. Mist and fan 3 times a day I guess? As a plan b if the humidity won't go up I have a little humidifier. Also, will I have to use the dot its if I keep the fc in a room where there will be natural light (I'll keep it at an indirect sunlight spot) Do you guys have any more suggestions, ideas, or sense a mistake in my plan? Please lmk!
  3. I am close to casing my sub. I was going to do a 50/50 of Jiff Seed Starter Mix and Verm and put 1/4in over the sub. How would I go about preparing the casing.... mainly how much water should I use when prepping it? Then load into a over bag and throw it in the PC for hour and a half.
  4. I was able to find therm-o-rock grade 3 verm locally will this work or should I get the stuff off amazon?
  5. As many of you already Know I had to take some time off and take some time to help out another Family...but back in the swing now...this is my first full lenght Log here at the Ology...I will be going a minimum of 2 flushes for sure. I innoculated my WBS on the 5th of Aug with a dark syringes I made myself, so all these jars are MS, so from the 5th to the 19th and 90% of them are ready to spawn...giggity...as long as all goes well I will reveal everything I did in a complete Tek that you all like to see...and for the new comers, I have a very different way of prepping My Teks, so watch out for a Tek from me once again. Mainly Ill be using this to watch My own progress and to show results of time and patience...not to mention being a little experimental So on with it they say... The jars I nocced up on the 5th (Yes I incubate all my jars with light, the tank you are looking at has 2 15/W fish tank bulbs and they keep my temp at exactly 82*F with the help of the cardboard wrapped around the outside...I could only get my temps to 79-80 without the cardboard(Also the cardboard is a good cover for the ?? Whats that...A : Its a broken glass tank and its just overlooked all the time on gargage day...stealth...lol)) : So here is 1 of the jars thats ready to go : My poop(CMC), verm, lime, and H20 : Here is the coir that I regularly use(Obtained from any pet store, it seems to be very chunky but workes just great, I think it works so well because it leaves little air pockets within the sub, Just my thoughts) : What is this ?(NOT COFFEE) : Ive also got a little brave and somewhat lazy as you can see from this pic, NO Nocc hole...No G2G...But yet I have growth...I did this jar as a test for my enviornment...I ws out of syringes but still had a small amount left over from filling my syringes so I dumped about 5ml of D-Water into the shot glass and removed the cover from the grains and just dumped it in(I dont recomend trying this), turns out my enviornment is pretty damn clean now that its just me and my family living here(Note I did this in open air W/O a GB...although I do have a fantastic GB to use but mainly only use it for G2G, agar and my PE LC preps) : ~ Thanx for tuning in and comenting and as usual any sugestions are always welcome...Please note that I have been working with some experimental stuff to add to the mixes and will reveal everything Upon Success Peace **D**
